Save the Date: Mandatory Faculty Meetings

Monday, October 19, 7 p.m. – Community Presbyterian Church – Sanctuary
OR
Tuesday, October 20, 7 p.m. – Eden Westside Baptist Church – Pell City

Choose the day or time that best fits your schedule. Attendance is required as part of membership. If you are providentially hindered from attending, let us know. One excused absence in the year for emergencies only. Please plan accordingly. Get the dates from the above CRCS calendar on your personal planner!

We were so excited to see everyone at the August faculty meeting. You may wonder why we make these meetings mandatory for our group. We do have several reasons that include:

  1. We have important information we need to share.
  2. Accountability for you as a faculty member and us as a staff.
  3. An opportunity for us to know you if we are ever asked about your involvement with Crossroads.
  4. An opportunity for you to ask questions in person and talk with staff.

1st Quarter Grades Are Due Tuesday, October 20, 2026

All Quarter 1 grade submissions are due no later than Tuesday, October 20. This is very important for everyone. By this time there will have been 10 weeks to get your first quarter work completed. Typically, a quarter is 8 to 9 weeks, so this is ample time. Once you submit your grades, we have work we do on our end. If there is a valid reason your grades will be late, let us know in the office.  Remember that this is a Crossroads requirement.

Things to remember when submitting grades online:

Pay close attention to what is being asked and answer accordingly. For example, when it asks for Your Name, we are assuming the adult is filling this out, so it is the parent’s name, not the student. Student’s name will be asked for as well.

Remember to select the correct quarter and enter the beginning and ending dates.

When it says to “Choose One”, please select one of the options. “Not Covered This Quarter” is one of the options if you did not cover that subject.

Once you submit, you will receive an email. Open the email and either digitally save or print and file the pdf of your student’s grades. You will need these at the end of the year to fill out the End of Year Forms.

Important Dual Enrollment Information

If you have a student taking Dual Enrollment, you will need to report those grades on your quarterly submission. We understand you will not have a grade when you turn in the first quarter, but you still need to report what course your student is taking. In the comment section on the grade submission report, put the course along with the number. i.e. English 101; Math 112.  Also note that it is a Dual Enrollment course, and that you will give the grade at the end of the semester…either quarter 2 or quarter 4. Then in May/June, when you turn in your End of the Year form, make sure you have the Dual Enrollment course/s listed with the credit earned alonog with final grade.

ACT TESTING

If your student is taking the ACT, remember two things!

  1. You are in a Church School.
  2. Use the Crossroads Christian School code when you sign up. 011846.

If you use this code, we will have access to your student’s score and will be able to put it on the back of their transcript.  If you do not use it, we cannot access it.

If your student takes the ACT test WITH WRITING, please let us know in the office. When the writing portion is taken, the test scores come back MUCH LATER than the normal scoring. We do not know to be looking for it and it is easily missed. If you let us know when they are taking it, then we will be able to keep looking until it comes in.

Some schools are beginning to NOT accept the ACT score we put on the back of the transcript. This is a new policy. So far, we have seen it from Auburn, Alabama and Troy. They want the score to be sent directly from the ACT score reporting site.  Check with the college you are applying to for their policy.

AP – Advanced Placement Testing – May 2027

Crossroads Christian School will again offer AP testing. If you have a student who wants to take an AP test, contact Karen Cunningham at records@crossroadschristian.us by October 27 and tell her what test(s) you want your student to take. Total cost for each AP test is $145; we are requiring a $45 deposit per test by October 27, 2026. Full payment will be required by April 8, 2027. Checks may be made out to Crossroads Christian School.  If you choose not to take an AP exam after October 27th, a refund of up to $90 (but not the full $145) per test will be given.

All AP testing is digital, so your student will have to provide their OWN computer/ipad. There will be an app they will install and test questions they answer prior to exam day.  This information is also readily available on the AP College Board site. We will be sending you more details about installing and testing the app well before test day.  We provide testing only – you will need to take care of the classroom learning on your own or through a tutor.  Also, please be aware that we will only be doing standard testing and will not do any accommodations.

Tests will be given at Crossroads Christian School, 825 Oak Blvd, Moody, AL.  Test dates are May 3-7 and May 10-14. Specific dates and times, as well as other helpful information, can be found on the College Board AP site. If you have any questions, contact Karen Cunningham at records@crossroadschristian.us or 205-640-2174.

Do You Have a Student Considering College After High School?

The Fit Imperative from the College Board is a helpful resource if your student is thinking about going to college when they graduate.  I am including it here instead of just sending it to seniors because you need time to start thinking, researching and planning earlier.  This looks like it has a lot of good information in finding the right fit for your student so that they can succeed in college.

The Crossroads Yearbook is the perfect way to remember all the special moments of the 2026-2027 school year! Our dedicated yearbook team works hard to capture memories that you will treasure for years to come. Don’t miss out on this keepsake – order your yearbook today for just $48. Go to Cheddar Up and look for the Yearbook collection. Don’t wait!

WE NEED YOUR PHOTOS!

Our yearbook staff works hard all year to capture the memories of the 2026-2027 school year, but we can’t do it without you! We need your help to make this year’s yearbook the best it can be. As your students participate in school events, sports, fine arts, and other activities, take a moment to upload your favorite photos to the yearbook site under the Media tab. Share the best of the best from your camera roll—those fun, candid, and special moments that only you capture. Together, we can create a yearbook full of memories that every student will treasure for years to come!

ACTIVITIES @ CRCS!

A full month or more of school has passed, and the Activities Team has enjoyed seeing many of you participate in the events we have planned. Also, the savings are piling up for those who are taking advantage of the Early Bird discounts. Way to go!

We had hoped to have all the second semester activities live in Cheddar Up by this newsletter, but a few details are hindering us from that goal.

BUT the Spring Formal is NOW live in Cheddar Up! The deadline is earlier than usual this year, and the Early Bird discount is significant. GO NOW and sign your high schooler(s) up!

Also, please note that the deadlines for Frontier Days and the October dance are October 1st and 3rd, respectively. Get your student(s) registered asap!

  1. Find what activities fit your family.
  2. Follow the age and grade stipulations. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of your payment.
  3. Read all the notes on Cheddar Up. Some field trips require certain attire, a signed waiver, etc.
  4. Know that the Crossroads dress and behavior guidelines, as noted in the school handbook, also apply to field trips. Parents/guardians are responsible for their own children.
  5. Please know that we endeavor to locate enriching, educational, and enjoyable activities. However, we cannot always know from which perspective or philosophical background a topic may be presented. We encourage you to always discuss with your students what they have “learned.”
  6. Our preferred method of payment on Cheddar Up is e-check or credit card. However, if you choose to pay the school office by cash/check, you still must register via Cheddar Up. Payment typically must be received in the school office no later than two weeks prior to an event.
  7. Remember that fees will be added to each transaction as explained on Cheddar Up.
  8. Register on time. Deadlines are listed on Cheddar Up.
  9. Cheddar Up purchases for activities and field trips are not transferable to other persons.

Be in Tune with Your Teen

As parents, we need to be in tune with our teenagers—not just with what they are doing, but with how they are doing. Suicide can feel like a frightening or uncomfortable subject, but it cannot be a taboo subject in our homes. The Center for Parent and Youth Understanding reminds us that teenagers who are struggling often give signs or cries for help, but those cries may go unheard if we don’t know what to look for. Take time to learn the warning signs, and then talk about them with your teen. Don’t attach shame or blame, and don’t panic when difficult things are shared. Instead, create an atmosphere where your child knows, “You can tell me anything. We will face this together.” Read this resource together so your teen can recognize warning signs not only in themselves but also in their friends. Most importantly, make sure they understand that they—and their friends—should not carry this alone. When someone is hurting, this is a time to speak, reach, and seek help. Sometimes all it takes is one word to begin the conversation, one person willing to listen, and one moment of courage to reach out for help.

CPYU PARENT PAGE

The CPYU Parent Page is a monthly newsletter designed by the Center for Parent/Youth Understanding to help keep parents informed about the latest happenings and trends in the world of youth culture.  Each month’s newsletter is at the end of the email I send out weekly; This Week’s News.  I cannot stress enough how valuable this resource is in parenting your students. Please take the time each month to look at the trends, resources offered, and encouragement form CPYU!

Jr High and Sr High Plays (Spring 2027)

7th-9th Grade Play
The Somewhat True Tales of Robin Hood

Jennifer Day – Director
Jessica Lloyd – Assistant Director

The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood is a frantically funny, Monty Pythonesque retelling of the classic. This time around, the legendary legend, in his never-ending quest to aid the needy, encounters a lovely damsel-in-distress (oddly obsessed with skin conditions); an ever-scheming sheriff who would rather bowl a strike than hit a bull’s-eye; a gold-hoarding, bad-guy monarch wannabe; and a good-natured “Town’s Guy” who manages to make his way into every scene, whether he belongs there or not. Combine them with an expandable band of spoon-wielding Merry Men whose collective IQs equal six, and you’ve got an irreverent jaunt through Sherwood Forest you won’t soon forget!

This play is for 7th through 9th grade students only. (This is the grade you registered with Crossroads at the first of the year.) Practices will be 2:45-4:45 on Fridays starting in January, with the possibility of additional Saturday practices.

Please be sure you are available for all of Tech/Performance week before you audition!

Tech week with required attendance will be April 5th-8th,
Performances Friday April 9th (7:00pm) & Saturday April 10th (3:30pm) at Moody’s new Performing Arts Center.
Auditions Mon Nov 16th 12:30-1:30, 1:30-2:30 or Tues Nov 17th 1:30 – 2:30. (Students will only need to come to one time slot)
Callbacks
Wed Nov 18th IF NEEDED

You will need to sign up to be in the show in November on Cheddar Up. You will then receive preparation sides & character information for auditions with a SignUp Genius link to select your audition time slot.

Sr High Play – Esther
10th – 12th Grade Musical
Karen Cunningham – Director
This year’s musical, “Esther” was written in 2010 by Martin and Janice Landry, son and daughter-in-law of CRCS founding member and former administrator Debbie Landry.  It was performed at Crossroads in 2013, and it is time to re-introduce this play to our students and families.  This musical is a great opportunity for us to share truths with the community about our special purpose and God’s protection, as well as being a play that is very personal to our school.  This lively musical is filled with humorous dialog, memorable music, and a deep Biblical message. This adaptation of the book of Esther is presented through special arrangement with Christian Theatre Productions with Music and Lyrics by Martin Landry and Book and Lyrics by Janice Landry.  This musical is for 10th through 12th grade students. Practices will be 2:30-4:45 on Fridays starting in January, with the possibility of three additional Saturday practices.

Please be sure you are available for all of Tech/Performance week before you audition!

Tech week:  Tech week with required attendance will be March 15-18.

Performances: March 19th & 20th and will be at the new Moody Performing Arts Center.

Auditions: Mon/Tues, Nov 16th/17th, 3:30 – 5:45 (just come to your slot), with Callbacks on Wed Nov 18th from 3:00-5:00.

Audition slots using SignUp Genius will open in November (link will be in the Nov newsletter), and you will need to sign up on Cheddar Up to pay the student fee as well. Preparation for auditions will include singing a portion of a song from the approved list and reading from “slides” that will be provided with the SignUp Genius in November.  Approved song list will be in November Newsletter also.  And yes, since it is a musical, you WILL need to sing one of the songs on the list to audition.  But don’t despair, there are several great parts that don’t have to sing any solos!

Mandatory meeting for PARENTS and STUDENTS on Dec 11th, time TBA.

Farm-City Poster, Essay and Video Contest

It is that time again!  Our annual Farm-City Poster, Essay and Video Contest time is here.  This year due to a crazy Fall schedule, we have elected to push back the deadline for our contest to December 4, 2026.

Each county holds its own respective contests and winners advance to the State contest in 2027.

Turn in your entries to the St. Clair County Extension Office on or before the December 4 deadline.  Essays and Videos are to be submitted online per attached instructions.

We especially want to mention that there are CASH prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, for each category, in the county as well as the teacher of those students.

Attached are entry packets and letters by grade level.  Please contact Pam Ayres at 205-368-3228 or pamscout@gmail.com for more information or to notify of a need for entry pickups.

Meet in the gym at noon for fellowship as we have lunch together. Then we will transition into a time of study and prayer. It is a great time to connect with others, learn and lift each other up in prayer. Riley Winter from Leadership Camp will be our speaker this year.

CRCS will facilitate the lunch. To do that, we need help. There will be a FB event with the menu and parents will sign up to bring food. That is usually posted the week before each event. We also will need volunteers to help with the set-up, serving of the food, and clean up. If you can volunteer, please contact the office or reply on the FB post when it is created. We can NOT do it without you.

KEY CLUB NEWS!

We had an amazing start to the 2026-2027 school year with our first Key Club meeting! We want all our members to know that Key Club is not just about counting service hours for a college resume, it is for high school students who are excited about leadership and service to get involved with the community. We want our members to take charge and come up with new ideas to better the club. Even if you are a freshman, we want your new ideas and input.

Service hours are a huge part of Key Club. They help us know if our members are growing in leadership, taking action in their own communities, and keeping up with our club’s service projects. You can use this link to submit them.

Yearbook

Students in grades 9-12

Yearbook is a great choice as an activity this year! Why? The reasons are many but just to highlight a few:

  • Learn skills by working together in a group.
  • Learn about the new Canva program used by Herff Jones to produce a fantastic yearbook.
  • Learn and use leadership skills
  • Have opportunities to use photography skills.
  • Have FUN!

Requirements:

  • Must be in grades 9-12
  • Must be able to attend monthly meetings on the 3rd Friday of each month from 12:30-1:30.
  • Must have a laptop that they can bring to each meeting. We have found that without a laptop (not a tablet), there is not much you can do at the meetings.
  • 1st meeting Friday, October 16, 2026 / 12:30-1:30 CRCS back building.

Sign up at the faculty meeting or contact the yearbook advisors:

Contact Information:

Feel free to contact us at the email addresses below, depending on the concern.

Office: office@crossroadschristian.us (General Communications)

Records: records@crossroadschristian.us (Records, Grades, Transcripts, etc.)

Accounting: accounting@crossroadschristian.us (Financial)

OFFICE HOURS: Crossroads office has regular office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 am to 3 pm. Call and leave a message, and we’ll return your phone call. E-mail is always a good way to get in touch with us, almost any time!

TUITION: All Crossroads families will receive a monthly email reminder (through QuickBooks Online) on the last day of each month about next month’s tuition. It is due by the 15th of each month. There is a link through the QuickBooks e-mail to pay tuition from your bank to the Crossroads bank and you can pay for more than one month at a time. School year 2026-27 began on June 1, 2026 for Returning Families. Tuition for New Families who joined over the summer begins in August. You always have the option of paying by cash or check at faculty meetings or in the office. And you can mail checks also. We do not accept credit cards. If you believe there is a discrepancy, please contact the office so we can verify. If you are not receiving the QuickBooks e-mail, please let us know that also.

TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS: If you need a transcript for any reason, the first step is to go to our website, and under records, fill out the transcript request form. Lori Booth, our registrar, will send your transcript where you have requested. She will also contact you if she has any questions. Feel free to contact her with any questions you may have as well. If we have to prepare a transcript from scratch, it may take up to two weeks to produce it, depending on work volume. So don’t wait until the last minute to make that transcript request, and remember we need your up-to-date records before we can do it!

WORK PERMITS: Under the current state law, work permits are no longer required for your teenager. If a 14YO or 15YO is working, he or she must provide an Eligibility to Work form to employers, which can be obtained from the Crossroads office. Students 16 years or older do not need anything from the school. For more information, check the Child Labor Law .

DRIVERS PERMIT and DRIVERS LICENSE: If your student plans to take the driver’s permit or driver’s license test, the student must provide proof of school enrollment. Contact the school office for a ALEA form 1-93 enrollment/exclusion form. Or, call and request that we mail it to you. These forms will also be available at faculty meetings.
