SAVE THE DATE:

March Faculty Meetings

  • Monday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church
  • Tuesday, March 11 at 7 p.m. at Eden Westside Baptist Church

Choose the day or time that best fits your schedule. Attendance is required as part of membership. If you are providentially hindered from attending, let us know.

THIRD QUARTER GRADES ARE DUE BY TUESDAY, MARCH 18, 2024.

Don’t let time get away from you. Remember to open and print copies of your grades from the email you receive after you submit them. If you have not submitted earlier quarters, do that today.

It is understood that Quarters 1 and 2 should already be turned by this time.  If you get an email from Karen about grades being due, please reply.

Important Dual Enrollment Information

If you have a student taking Dual Enrollment, you will need to report those grades on your quarterly submission. We understand you will not have a grade when you turn in the first quarter, but you still need to report what course your student is taking. In the comment section on the grade submission report, put that it is a Dual Enrollment course, and that you will give the grade at the end of the semester…either quarter 2 or quarter 4. Then in May/June, when you turn in your End of the Year form, make sure you have the Dual Enrollment course/s listed with the credit earned.

ACT TESTING

If your student takes the ACT test WITH WRITING, please let us know in the office. When the writing portion is taken, the test scores come back MUCH LATER than the normal scoring. We do not know to be looking for it and it is easily missed. If you let us know when they are taking it, then we will be able to keep looking until it comes in.

KINDERGARTEN GRADUATION

Thursday, May 20, 2025
6:30 p.m.
CPC Sanctuary

Fee: $15 (to be paid by March 20)

Crossroads Christian Kindergarten Graduation is a wonderful experience. It is a meaningful milestone we would love to celebrate with your K student and family.

If your kindergarten student plans to participate in graduation, please contact Jenny Bartz at the office  by Thursday March 13, and let her know your student’s name and that you are interested in participating.

Rehearsal will be at 5:30 p.m. on the same day as graduation. Parents will order caps, gowns, and diplomas at https://oakhalli.com/kindergrad/. The Oak Hill Cap and Gown Company suggests ordering 3-4 weeks in advance to allow for processing and shipping. Select the “Complete Kindergrad Package” ($19.95). White Gown & White Tassel. Follow directions for size.

Students MUST arrive and be ready for practice no later than 5:30 pm on graduation night. You are free to invite as many friends and family as you wish. It is VERY important that students attend the rehearsal. Please bring your child’s BLANK diploma to rehearsal. Each student should memorize a verse (of your choosing) to be recited on graduation night. Please bring the scripture (written out in the version they will recite) to rehearsal.  This is NOT mandatory, but it is a nice part of graduation.

For any questions, contact Jenny Bartz at the office.

Well, inflation has caught up to the yearbook.  The price went up on us. The cost this year is $45 per book.  Remember that you must pre-order to secure one.  At times we have extra to sell but this past year we only had three extra.   You can order them on Cheddar Up under the collection Yearbook- T-Shirts- Choirs and Plays.

Ads in our yearbook help us each year so consider putting an ad in our yearbook. Contact Jenny Bartz or Trenity Whitfield.

PICTURES PLEASE!

Our yearbook staff takes the pictures you give us during the year to make a wonderful keepsake to capture many memoirs of the school year.  The staff works all year long learning and then creating.

We need your help to make this happen. Help us by staying on top of your photos and submitting them quickly so the staff can “do their thing.”  As your student participates in field trips, dances, home activities, individual arts or sports…take photos.  Pick the best of the best.  PLEASE do not upload your whole stash of photos on the event.  Just pick a few.   Submit within 2 weeks of the event.  The students will know they have photos they can work with to create the pages.

Go to the website and find the link under the Media/Yearbook tab.

Please use the code: CROSSROADS20215

Tuesday through Friday, April 22-25, 2025

1-3 pm | Grades 7, 8

You’ll need to bring your student for a 2-hour period for 4 days (Tuesday through Friday). Cost for each test is $35. There is an extra $25 charge for non-Crossroads students. We’ll need your student’s name and grade level when you turn in your order to the school office by Tuesday, March 11.

If you’re interested in testing, but bringing your student to Moody is not possible, there are online testing options. Seton has several options. Just check them out for yourself, to see if this is a better option for your family.

ASVAB

(Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)

For students in grades 11-12, and graduates
Tuesday April 15, 12:30 – 4 pm
Test results: TBA
CPC Back Building

The ASVAB Career Exploration Program provides high-quality career exploration and planning materials at no cost to high schools throughout the country. The program encourages students to explore a wide variety of careers, rather than limiting their exploration by telling them what they can or should do. Students explore occupations in line with their interests and skills and develop effective strategies to realize their career goals.

The ASVAB test covers eight areas including science, word knowledge, mathematics, and mechanical comprehension. It assesses a student’s ability to learn new skills and is a predictor of success in training and education programs. The Find Your Interests (FYI) inventory is a 90- item interest inventory based on John Holland’s widely accepted theory of career choice. When students complete the FYI, they have three interest codes to use with the OCCU-Find for career exploration. The OCCU-Find contains 400+ occupations sorted by interest codes so students can identify the occupations that match their own interests. For more information, go to www.asvabprogram.com.

Please sign up by contacting the office via email or phone.

No cost, but we do need to know who and how many plan to attend. Check your calendar and only sign up if you are sure you want your student to take the test. We only have 30 slots available.

If you choose to submit your own photo of your student for the student portrait section of the yearbook, please send it to the office email. Here is how:

First, take a picture of your student from the chest up. Then send it to the office email with your student’s name.

If you submit more than one student photo, make it clear which name goes with each photo by sending one email per student. We will upload it to the yearbook.

NOTE: We have had issues distinguishing student portrait pictures in the mass uploads for regular yearbook photo submissions. So please do not submit them there.

ACTIVITIES @ CRCS!!!

PLEASE don’t delay in checking out Cheddar Up so that you meet the registration deadlines and get your calendar marked. As you do so, please remember the important information below:

  1. Parents, ensure that your students are where they are supposed to be and not where they are not supposed to be.
  2. Paying by credit card or e-check is the easiest way to make sure that your payment is made in a timely fashion. If you choose to pay by cash/check, make sure that the school office receives your funds no later than two weeks (in most cases) PRIOR to the date of the first item in your Cheddar Up order. The entire balance of the order is due at the same time.
  3. To avoid paying a large amount at once, distribute your Cheddar Up items across several orders.
  4. Choosing the cash/check payment option assumes payment will be made and attendance will take place. Please do not take someone else’s spot.
  5. Failure to pay on time will result in forfeiture of participation.
  6. Late registrations will no longer be accepted. Please watch the deadlines.

If you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us via email, text, or phone. We are here for you, and we absolutely love doing what we do for the Crossroads Family.

Bearing Fruit in Winter

I miss Spring in America. I miss seeing the first evidence of green after a long, grey winter. I miss the longer days, the blooming flowers, the buds on trees. I miss the return of twittering birds, and the familiar warmth of the sun striking my cheek as it chases away winter’s wind.

What I love and miss most about experiencing the four seasons in North America is the general revelation of God’s Word that is spoken through them. I love the predictability of Hope being birthed after a season of Waiting, the concrete knowledge that the darkness only lasts for a night, and that Joy will come in the morning. We know these things because we see them. We experience them. We taste them. We live them. We inhabit the rhythm of the seasons within our own souls.

However, what I love more than the rhythm of the four seasons is when the natural world seems to contradict itself, or when a new character trait of God is revealed through His creation in a surprising way. This phenomenon happened to me when we visited Thailand recently for a medical missions conference. The heat was a reminder that we were definitely not in Spring, and the exotic beauty was a reminder that we were neither in North America or Africa. Entire rows of orchids lined some streets. The scent of jasmine and plumeria hung in the air. The turquoise jade vine captivated me with its likeness to a dragon’s claw. This was a new revelation of God’s love of diversity.

Interestingly, there was one tree that melted into the background. There wasn’t anything special about it. It was large and bare, as you would expect to see any deciduous tree in the middle of winter in North America. Yet, there was something that one day caught my attention: large, oblong fruit hanging from it. Can a tree produce fruit in the dead of winter? I wondered. Is this tree in a season of slumber or is it in a season of growth? All the flora around it is clearly in an eternal Spring, but what is going on with this tree?

As I was reflecting on this odd tree, the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, “You are this tree.” All around me, Gospel fruit has been blooming. After years of plodding, God is bringing forth beautiful, long-awaited, fruit in the hospital, church, and community in which we minister. This fruit bears the aroma of revival and restoration, and looks different than any fruit I’ve seen elsewhere. And yet, the last five years have been some of the hardest. My primary ministry is in the background: hospitality and homeschooling our kids. They have had medical crises. They have had mental health crises. Three out of four have received diagnoses of learning disabilities, and a fourth was getting tested at this conference. Looking at this tree, I realized that while all around me is perpetual Spring, my soul has been living in the long slumber of Winter, longing for a new day to dawn.

Mamas, listen to me when I say Jesus can bear fruit in our Winter. This is a paradox, yes, and it completely goes against the laws of nature. But, we submit to and worship a God who made the natural laws and who can, in His sovereignty, defy them. Are you looking around at your homeschool situation and wondering when you will see fruit on the vine? Does it feel like evidence of new life is springing up around you, but your soul is still waiting to catch up? Or, perhaps for your life to slow down?

Look up at your bare branches and take heart- there is fruit hanging there that speaks to the upside-down nature of God’s Kingdom. There are things being birthed in you and in your children that could not come into being without the season you are presently in.

“Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying,

‘This is the way; walk in it.’” Isaiah 30:20-21

The Lord, our gracious and merciful Teacher, sometimes gives us the bread of adversity and the water of affliction. This is not because we are a rebellious people running from Him and in exile, but so that we will know that He alone is our bread of life (John 6:35) and from Him alone flows streams of living water (John 7:38). If Christ our Lord walked in perfect obedience and still suffered affliction in order for eternal fruit to be birthed, then we can trust that, in Him, life and death can miraculously coincide. Some seasons are predictable and grounding, others are foreign and disorienting. Neither defy the nature of God, and both produce fruit for His glory.

Upper Room

Friday, March 7, 2025
12:00 – 1:30 p.m.

Led by Robby Grames – Community Church Pastor

Meet in the gym at noon for fellowship as we have lunch together. Then we will transition into a time of study and prayer. It is a great time to connect with others, learn and lift each other up in prayer.

CRCS will facilitate the lunch. To do that, we need help. There will be a FB event with the menu and parents will sign up to bring food. That is usually posted the week before each event. We also will need volunteers to help with the set-up, serving of the food, and clean up. If you can volunteer, please contact the office or reply on the FB post when it is created. We can NOT do it without you.

KEY CLUB NEWS!

February was a great month to be a member of Key Club! Over sixty of us served at the Valentine Box Competition. Following this schoolwide event, we enjoyed a GAP time with pizza, games, and a few announcements. Later in the month, we took time to make cards and craft items that we will deliver to Children’s Hospital and/or a nursing home. Finally, our members continue to serve on their own at home, in their churches, in the community, and elsewhere.

This month, we are looking forward to the District Convention (DCON), club elections, and more. Be sure to look at the service project sign-up sheets at each meeting.

In closing, as we always say, the best way to know what is happening with YOUR student-led Key Club is to attend the meetings, ask questions, and participate.

Please don’t hesitate to contact our student president-Roark McKibben, your grade rep, or the faculty advisor with your questions, ideas, thoughts, and concerns.

Involvement in 4-H includes hands-on projects in areas like science, health, agriculture and civic engagement, all in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. Kids can concentrate on one focus area or they can try a variety of programs throughout their 4-H experience. Robotics

A big congratulations to the CRCS Robotics Team for their awesome performance at the regional finals, held December 13-14 at Alabama A&M University! Competing in the exciting “Low G” game, the team designed a robot for a simulated moon landing, showcasing their creativity and engineering skills.

We are proud to announce that our team earned two awards: 1st place in T-shirt Design and 3rd place in Website Design—a testament to their hard work and innovation both on and off the field.

Although this season has come to an end, we’re already looking ahead to next year! Did you know that robotics is about so much more than engineering and programming? The competition includes five components—Notebook, Marketing Presentation, Spirit & Sportsmanship, Exhibit & Interviews, and Robot Performance—offering plenty of opportunities to showcase a wide variety of talents and skills. Do you enjoy video editing or graphic design? Maybe you love the idea of creating a commercial to promote our team? Whether you’re interested in writing and editing, have a knack for team leadership, or are passionate about mechanical engineering, there’s a place for you. Every role is essential in helping the team succeed!

Robotics is open to students in grades 6-12, so there’s room for a range of ages and skills! If you’re interested in joining the CRCS Robotics Team, don’t hesitate to contact Eric Jackson at ericjacksonbbq@gmail.com, Leigh McKibben at leigh@mediamerge.com or James Stanley at js091501@gmail.com

DRIVERS PERMIT and DRIVERS LICENSE: If your student plans to take the driver’s permit or driver’s license test, the student must provide proof of school enrollment. Contact the school office for a ALEA form 1-93 enrollment/exclusion form. Or, call and request that we mail it to you. These forms will also be available at faculty meetings.
